The Greenhouse Effect, Global Warming, Climate Change - whatever you would like to call it - is the result of the emission of gases, mainly carbon dioxide (CO2), into the atmosphere. When burnt for energy, fossil fuels produce levels of CO2 determined by their different emissions factors. Wood fuel, however, is carbon neutral. This means that as trees grow, they remove CO2 from the air; so by burning wood, we are only putting back what has been taken out. This cyclical process is illustrated in the diagram below.
Wood energy has been endorsed as sustainable and renewable by the government and all major environmental organisations.
