In addition to the installation of an effective boiler, another important aspect of wood fuelled heating is access to a reliable and effective supply of fuel. For log fuelled domestic boilers, where households have their own access to fuel supply, this is reasonably easy to manage.

For the production of both wood chip and logs, MWEN has compiled guides which describe the process in further detail and can be downloaded in PDF format via the links below.

Producing Wood Chips for Fuel

For organisations without an accessible fuel supply, MWEN has set up a wood chip fuel supply company, Midlands Wood Fuel (MWF), to service both the heating and electricity markets.  www.wood-fuel.co.uk

Text Box: Many Industrial boilers will often be fuelled by wood by-products from their own manufacturing processes, such as joinery off-cuts or furniture materials.
For larger scale installations, however, which do not have their own source of wood or for boilers fired by wood chip, the situation is more complex.
Good quality wood chip can often be either difficult to source or expensive, and the cost of chipping ones own wood can also be prohibitive. Chips must also be of the right moisture content, so require storage with ventilation or turning if chipped from wet.
