Text Box: Hospitals, schools, universities and local authority offices are being incentivised by government programmes to consider switching their fuel supplies. As the most cost-effective form of renewable energy, wood heating offers a real opportunity to make a difference.
The use of wood fuel  can also create employment in areas of economic decline.
Towards sustainable development goals, public organisations are currently under pressure to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by switching to renewable sources of energy.

Text Box: Worcester County Hall
The Community Energy Programme can provide up to 40% of the funding required for public buildings to switch to wood energy, meaning that the lifecycle costs, and so yearly heating bills, can be lower than for fossil fuel alternatives.

MWEN is helping to deliver several such projects, and in May 2002, Worcester County Hall installed a 700kW fully automatic wood fuelled boiler to heat the County Council Headquarters. This is fuelled by locally sourced forestry wood chips and is the largest of its kind in the UK. Please see MWENs case studies section for further details.
