The UK heating market represents 40% of the total (non-transport) energy market. Wood heating is the lowest capital cost form of renewable energy and provides the most cost-effective means of atmospheric carbon reduction.

Text Box: In rural areas that are excluded from the mains gas network, wood fuelled heating can deliver per kWh costs lower than those provided by alternative fossil fuels such as oil or coal.
Not only can this help combat fuel poverty, but in regions historically dependent upon a declining agricultural sector, can also create new, permanent employment in the forestry management and transport sectors.

Urban areas located near to fuel supplies from city tree surgery operations or industries providing “clean” recycled wood can also benefit from wood fuelled heating. Not only can wood fuel provide extra income to these industries and reduce the amount of wood sent to landfill, but over the full lifetime of the system, modern wood boilers can also deliver heating costs competitive with those of most fossil fuels.
